Hygge Coffee Shop now open at the Merrion Centre

Scandi-inspired coffee and brunch favourite brings its signature charm to Leeds

The wait is over! The highly anticipated HYGGE coffee and brunch spot has officially opened the doors to its first Leeds venue at the Merrion Centre, bringing a taste of Scandinavian-inspired comfort to the heart of the city.

Bringing Cozy Dining to a Wider Audience

Located on Woodhouse Lane, adjacent to one of the centre’s main entrances, the new 2,000 sq. ft. café marks HYGGE’s fourth site and its first outside Sheffield.

Renowned for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and menus bursting with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, HYGGE has become a go-to destination for relaxed dining since launching in 2019.

Visitors to the new Leeds coffee shop can enjoy HYGGE’s much-loved artisan coffees, freshly baked cakes, pastries, and toasties, alongside wholesome brunch favourites, vibrant salads, and seasonal specials. Guests can choose to dine in the café’s signature cosy setting or take their order away for life on the go.

Ongoing Discounts for the Local Community

To celebrate the launch, over 400 free coffee and drink cards were handed out across the city, giving people a chance to try HYGGE’s drinks on the house. In addition, the café is offering ongoing discounts throughout the year, including 10% off for students, NHS staff, and Blue Light card holders – part of HYGGE’s commitment to supporting the local community and making quality coffee and food more accessible.

Alex Moore, Owner of HYGGE, said:

“We’re thrilled to have officially opened our first café in Leeds. The Merrion Centre is the perfect home for HYGGE – right at the heart of a vibrant, creative community. Our aim has always been to create spaces where people can slow down, relax, and enjoy great food and coffee, and we’re so excited to welcome our new Leeds customers.”

Charles Newman, Associate Director for Town Centre Securities (owners of the Merrion Centre), added:

“We’re delighted to see HYGGE open its doors at the Merrion Centre. Their distinctive style and quality offer perfectly complement our evolving mix of independent and national operators. We’re confident HYGGE will be a big hit with visitors, students, and local workers alike.”

The opening has also created 15–20 new jobs, further strengthening the Merrion Centre’s position as a key destination for food, drink, and leisure in Leeds.
