ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena Hotel Retains Green Key Sustainability Award for 2026
Hotel reinforces commitment to eco-friendly operations with globally recognised sustainability certification
The ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena, situated within the Merrion Centre, has once again secured Green Key certification, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable hospitality and environmental best practice.
The globally recognised accreditation is one of the tourism industry’s most respected benchmarks for environmental responsibility.
Global framework driving sustainable hospitality
Operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education and delivered in England by the charity Keep Britain Tidy, Green Key provides a comprehensive framework to help hospitality businesses manage and improve their environmental performance. The certification places strong emphasis on resource efficiency, waste reduction, and engaging both employees and guests in sustainability initiatives.
To maintain Green Key status, participating venues must meet rigorous environmental criteria, supported by detailed documentation and regular external audits. The programme also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (2015–2030), encouraging long-term, measurable progress across the sector.
Kim Wantoch, General Manager of the hotel, commented:
“We’re proud to have retained our Green Key certification for 2026. It reflects the consistent effort our team puts into operating more sustainably, whether that’s through energy-saving measures, reducing waste, or encouraging more mindful choices among our guests. Achieving this recognition again demonstrates that sustainability is embedded in our day-to-day operations.”
The Green Key symbol offers reassurance to guests that their stay is contributing to a hotel actively working to lessen its environmental impact, without compromising on quality, comfort, or experience.
As a centrally located hotel in one of the city’s busiest districts, ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena continues to champion responsible tourism, combining contemporary accommodation with a strong environmental ethos.
